DOHA: On the margin of the friendly match which paired Qatar Olympic team and
their counterparts from Austria, Mr. Horst Lumper, vice president of the Austrian
Football Federation met with Naional teams’ camps and competitions manager,
Mr. Ahmed Al Abbasi.
Qatar endured a hefty 0-4 defeat at the hands of Austria at Grand Hamad Stadium
as the Fahad Thani led squad prepares for the AFC U-22 championship set to take
place in Qatar later this year.
After exchanging mementos, the Austrian official confirmed talks between QFA and
OFB to arrange preparatory camps for Qatari national teams in Austria.
Mr. Lumper believes the recent decision to hold the 2022 World Cup in either November
or December is ideal, he said “ Qatar deserves to host the World Cup, and I believe holding
the tournament in November or December is a very good thing, as the weather conditions
will be ideal for football”.
He then added “This is my first visit to Qatar, I’m truly impressed with what I have seen so
far, and the sports facilities are second to none”.
Austria are set to compete in the seventh group of the UEFA U-21 qualifiers alongside
Germany, Russia, Finland, Azerbaijan and Faroe Islands.
