Doha: Our under-23 national team is gearing up to participate in the highly anticipated 49th edition of the Toulon International Tournament (Maurice Revello) in France from June 5-18, 2023. This prestigious event is a critical component of our team's intensive preparation program leading up to the 2024 AFC U23 Asian Cup in Doha, which serves as qualifiers for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Our national team will play in Group B, along with Australia, Mexico, and Togo. Group A includes Saudi Arabia, France, Venezuela, and Costa Rica, while Group C features Japan, Cote d'Ivoire, Bolivia, and Panama.
Our team's first match will be against Australia on Tuesday, June 6, at 3:00 PM Doha time, followed by the second match against Mexico on Friday, June 9, at 6:30 PM. The final group match will be played against Togo on Monday, June 12, also at 6:30 PM.
During the tournament, teams will play against each other within their respective groups, with the best-performing teams advancing to the next rounds. On June 15, matches will be held to determine the teams' final positions, where the fifth and sixth teams will compete against the eighth and ninth teams, respectively. On June 16, the semifinals will be played, and the final and the match for the third and fourth places will be held on June 18.
The Toulon Tournament is one of the most prestigious tournaments for youth and U23 age groups worldwide. It has been played since 1967, with France holding the record for winning the most number of titles at 13. The championship attracts some of the strongest international teams and players, showcasing their skills and enriching the game of football.
