DOHA: The U-23 West Asian Football Championship set to be held in Doha
later this month is key event for regional teams, Qatar Football
Association (QFA) said on Sunday.
Mansour Al-Ansari, Secretary General of QFA, said: "We are ready to
host the event. It is not an important for us only. It is an important
tournament for all participating teams."
Al-Ansari said teams aiming to qualify for the Rio Olympic Games in
2016 will benefit by featuring in the event.
The draw of the event was held Sunday, pitting Qatar against Jordan,
Palestine and Yemen.
The draw was held on Sunday when Qatar was tagged in Group A.
Group B saw Iran, Saudi Arabia and Iran together while Group C has
teams from the UAE, Oman and Syria.
The competition will take place from September 30-October 14.
"I think the teams are well balanced," Al-Ansari said.
"There won't be any easy matches," he said. "All teams will be eager
to do well," he said.
"I hope Qatar does well as we have a quality side," Al-Ansari said.
