DOHA: Al Ahli coach Yusuf Adam on Saturday said he is expecting a
spirited performance against football giants El Jaish when they two
meet in the Emir Cup quarter-finals on Sunday.
"Everyone understands the importance of playing well in any Emir Cup
clash. It is a huge event with high stakes. Any two teams develop a
kind of rivalry when they go into an Emir Cup clash," Adam said on
Saturday.
"The teams are prepared to give their best and I have seen my side
play with great positive spirit," Adam added.
"The players showed great commitment in the last few games of the
league also. So we are up against one of the best sides in Qatar and
we consider this a challenge," the coach said.
"This will clearly be the biggest challenge for us. El Jaish are a
great organised team," he said.
"They are strong in attack and with a great deal of stability in the
middle. We are focused on the game at hand.
"I know my players want to go as far as possible in this tournament," Adam
said.
"There are no weak sides in Emir Cup. I believe my team is working to
play as a unit. In the last two months, we have proved that we can
play good at any level, against any side," Adam said.
"If we win, I won't be surprised as we are a good side," he said.
When asked about a new contract with Al Ahli, Adam said: "We have not
signed a new contract. I will talk with the management once we are
done with this season. Right now we are looking at our next game."
El Jaish coach Sabri Lamouchi said his players were 'excited' to have
reached the quarter-finals stage.
"We will be playing a tough side in Al Ahli. They are considered one
of the best sides in the country," Lamouchi said on Saturday. "They
have got good results and we face a strong side," he said.
"But in my camp, there is genuine excitement. We are happy to be
playing the quarter-finals tomorrow (Sunday). There is pressure but we
feel we are ready," the coach said.
"I congratulate Yusuf Adam on a good season. They offer a good fight.
If we want our journey to continue in Emir Cup, we must win tomorrow,"
he said.
