DOHA: Al Gharafa, who have transformed themselves under new
Portuguese coach Pedro Caixinhna, recorded a forceful 4-0 victory
over Al Sailiya in their 22nd round action in the Qatar Stars League
on Saturday.
At Thani bin Jassim Satdium, it was a win marshaled by Al Gharafa’s
latest recruits; Thamer Jamal opened the scoring for the hosts just
ten minutes inside the first half, while Hungarian striker Krsztian
Nemeth sealed the night on 72 minutes.
Former Qatari international Adel Lami scored in the 63rd minute, just
five minutes before Dragos Gregore found his way into the scoresheet
in unfortunate manner through an own goal.
Al Gharafa are currently placed 8th in the Qatar Stars League standings
with a tally of 30 points after 22 games. This was only Al Gharafa’s eighth
victory, a blow par upshot for a side tipped by many as a prime contender
for the title won last week by Al Rayyan.
Yesterday, Champions of Qatar Stars League Al Rayyan were held to a
goalless draw by Struggling Qatar SC.
Al Rayyan thumped Qatar SC 9-0 in their first meeting in the league, but
failed to find one goal to win. It was Al Rayyan's first draw this season
after 20 wins and one loss. They increase their point tally to 61 points
from 22 matches.
