DOHA: Al Markhiya on Sunday edged past Al Shamal 1-0 in their Emir Cup opener at Al Ahli Stadium. Saleh Al Yahri scored the only goal of the match in the 56th minute off a corner kick. Al Markhiya have exhibited exceptional form this season, remaining unbeaten with their win on Sunday. A total of 16 teams will feature in the second round of the tournament. Emir Cup is the most popular football tournament in the country. The five-phase event will end next month.
