Al Rayyan beat Al Gharafa to reach Emir Cup semis

DOHA: Football giants Al Rayyan, coached by Michael Laudrup, on Wednesday avenged their QSL losses by beating Al Gharafa 2-1 in the Emir Cup quarter-final.
The fighting win at Al Sadd Stadium also secured Al Rayyan – who lost twice to Al Gharafa in the QSL – a semi-finals spot.
Rodrigo Tabata (27th minute) and Abdulrahman Harazi (72nd) scored for Al Rayyan while Fahid Al Shammari (48th) found the net for Al Gharafa. Al Gharafa defender George Kwesi was shown the red card in the 20th minute when he unfairly brought down Al Rayyan player Ahmed Alaaeldin Abdlmotaal.
Al Gharafa played the rest of the match with 10 men.
On Thursday Qatar Stars League champions Lekhwiya meet Al Khor in the second quarter-final.
In another quarter-final, Al Kharaitiyat take on Al Sadd on May 5 at Lekhwiya Stadium.
In the last quarter-final, El Jaish square off against Umm Salal on May 6. The semi-finals will be held on May 13 and 14 while the final will take place on May 19.
The Emir Cup is the most popular football tournament in Qatar.
