DOHA:Al Rayyan overpoweredAl Wakrah 5-0 on Saturday to seal the
Qatar Stars League (QSL) title with five rounds to spare.
It was Rayyan’s first league title since the 1994-95 season.
Rodrigo Tabata and Sebastian Soria gave them a 2-0 lead at half-time.
Sergio Garcia (57th), Koh Myong-Jin (67th) and Victor Caceres (72nd)
completed the rout.
It was Rayyan’s 20th win in 21 rounds, with their only defeat coming
against Al Sadd last December.
It has been a remarkable journey for Rayyan who were relegated to
the Second Division at the end of 2013-14 season.
They won the Second Division title the following season and won
promotion to QSL.
Meanwhile, two first-half goals were enough for Al Sailiya to pick
up full points against Al Ahli.
Faouzi Ayesh opened the scoring for Sailiyah in the 13th minute. Carlos
Alberto doubled the lead in the 19th.
Meshal Abdullah converted from the penalty spot to pull one back in
the 63rd.
Earlier, Al Kharaitiyat snatched a point with a second-half strike against
Al Arabi.
Kharaitiyat’s Issiar Dia scored in the 57th minute after Al Arabi had taken
lead through captain Paulinho in the ninth.
