DOHA: Defending champions Al Sadd on Saturday edged past Al Gharafa 3-2 to reach the semi-finals of the Emir Cup. Baghdad Bounedjah scored two goals (9 and 64) while Hassan Al Haydos chipped in with a first-half effort (39) off a free-kick to power Al Sadd. M Abdulla (41) and V Weiss (75) scored the goals for Al Gharafa at Grand Hamad Stadium. In what was a feisty game, Al Sadd prevailed showing experience in the mid-field to thwart the moves of former champions Al Gharafa. Al Haydos' superb free kick clearly demonstrated Al Sadd's dominance with flair on the Grand Hamad Stadium pitch. In the earlier quarter-final at the same venue, QSL champions Al Rayyan crushed Al Kharaitiyat 3-0 after goals by Rodrigo Tabata, Sergio Garcia and Sebastian Soria. In the two quarter-finals on Sunday, Lekhwiya host Al Sailiyah while Al Ahli take on El Jaish. The Emir Cup is the biggest football tournament in the country.
