DOHA: Former champions Al Sadd launched the second phase of
the Qatar Stars League (QSL) with a 5-1 demolition of bottom-placed
Mesaimeer at Al Ahli Stadium on Sunday.
Hamza Sanhaji (3), Mashaal Qassim (24), Luiz Muriqui(41), Khalfan
Ibrahim (43) helped Al Sadd walk off the Al Ahli Stadium pitch with
a 4-0 lead in the first half.
Kassola Mohammed (51) quickly added to that scoreline with a
superbly taken snap-header as Al Sadd picked up three points
from the round 14 clash.
For Mesaimeer there was a consolation strike when Erivelto Emiliano
Silva (82) converted a late penalty in the one-sided game.
Sunday’s huge win was a welcome relief for coach Jesualdo Ferreira
who saw his side blow hot and cold in round 12 and 13.
In Qatar Classico on December 10, hosts Al Sadd shocked points leaders
Al Rayyan 2-1 but then disappointed their fans by getting hammered at
the hands of El Jaish.
Third-placed El Jaish – who have played one games less than Al Sadd – beat
Ferreira’s side 4-2 last week.
Al Sadd now have 27 points from 14 matches. Al Rayyan have 36 points from
13 matches. El Jaish have a tally of 26 points from 13 matches.
