DOHA: Title-contenders Al Sadd and Al Ahli
registered identical victories over their respective
opponents to claim winning points in the Qatar Stars
League (QSL) yesterday at different venues in Doha.
Al Sadd scored a goal apiece in each half to overcome
Al Arabi 2-1 at their own backyard to continue the close
title-fight with rivals and defending champions Lekhwiya
in addition to owning the bragging rights in the traditional
Doha derby.
Their star striker Khalfan Ibrahim (pictured) gave them the
breakthrough by netting the goal in 43rd minute of the match.
Al Sadd made it 2-0 when Hasan Khalid Haydos found target
in the 65th minute.
Al Arabi got their consolation goal through Ahmad Mohamed
Shahi, two minutes before real time.
Al Ahli came up with a spirited performance as they came
from one goal behind to defeat 10-man El Jaish 2-1 in the
18th round of the Qatar Stars League at the Lekhwiya
Stadium on Saturday.
Wagner Ribeiro put the armymen ahead as early as in
the fifth minute, but minutes after they were reduced to
10 men on the hour mark, Al Ahli struck through Alain Dioko
and found a second goal through defender Pedro Correia in
the 78th. It turned out to be the winner.
