DOHA: Al Wakrah handed over the coaching reins to Kais Yaakoubi as
they hope to make a turnaround in the Qatar Stars League.
The Tunisian replaced Jose Mauricio, who was fired after the Blue
Waves suffered a 0-2 defeat in the sixth round.
Yaakoubi will have his work cut out as two-time champions Wakrah
are currently at the bottom of the table with just one point. The 50-year
-old has a tough task on hand as they host title favourites Al Sadd in
a seventh-round tie on Sunday.
Yaakoubi last managed his native side Club Africain, for whom he had
played as a forward for 13 years. Wakrah just about managed to stay
in the league last time, but have found the going really tough this season.
They signed foreigners Pablo Zebellos (Paraguay) and Pablo Olivera
(Uruguay) in place of Portuguese midfielder Ruben Amorim and
Argentinian striker Sebastian Saez while retaining most of their local
players. But goals have not been coming.
