DOHA: All World Cup stadiums will be completed by 2020, Engineer Hilal Al Kuwari, Chairman of the Technical Delivery Office, Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, said on Tuesday.
“We are actually working on six proposed stadiums for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and we have launched the design of five of them," Al Kuwari said.
“Khalifa Stadium is the first proposed stadium to be ready by the end of 2016 while all stadiums will be ready by 2020. Khalifa Stadium is being built by Aspire Zone and the work started in October 2015," he said.
Regarding Al Wakrah Stadium, Eng Al Kuwari said: “We have started the work on December 2013 and it will be completed by 2018. So far we have completed the hoarding, enabling works, foundations and we are about to award the main contractor next week who will be a local contractor.
He added: “Al Bait Stadium in Al Khor City is being built by Aspire Zone and is at a good stage. The early works started in June 2014 and it will be completed by 2018. The main contractor was awarded and we have signed a contract with Al Khor and Al Thakhira company, which is a company that belongs to the people of those cities, to build the workers’ accommodation.
“The work was started in QF Stadium in March 2015 by Astad Company that belongs to Qatar Foundation. The main contractor will be awarded early next year.
“Work at Al Rayyan Stadium started on July 2014 and it will be ready by 2019. The main contractor will be awarded early 2016. Regarding Lusail Stadium, the work started on October 2014 and it will be ready by 2020 and the design to be launched soon.
“We are currently identifying the best options for the training sites. We are studying almost 65 locations," Al Kuwari said.
