MEXICO CITY: David Jonathon scored two goals as Canada beat Qatar 2-0
in their opening clash of the Mexico International Football
Tournament.
Jonathon scored the two goals in the 42nd and 65th minute as Canada
picked up points in the opening clash at Centro de alto Rendimiento.
The tournament includes teams from Panama, Canada, Qatar, Bermuda and
hosts Mexico.
On Friday, Canada controlled the match in patches but thanks to
Jonathon produced two well-taken goals in the clash.
Backed by a goal's advantage at the end of the first half, Canada
mounted more attacks to manage their second to seal their convincing
win.
Qatar's Dutch coach Arno said his players put up a spirited display
and showed signs of improving as the match progressed.
In another match on Friday, Mexico crushed Bermuda 4-0. It was
Mexico's second win following their victory against Canada on the
opening day of the event.
