Hong Kong . Coach Daniel Carreno said in the pre-game press
conference on Wednesday.
The two sides clash in a 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2019 Asian Cup joint
qualifying match at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium on Thursday.
In the first qualifying clash played at Mongkok Stadium on September
8, 2015, visiting Qatar side beat Hong Kong 3-2 to pick up crucial
points in the Group C.
Carreno stressed the importance of the match to maintain the team’s
soaring momentum, as well as to improve Qatar’s position in the
FIFA rankings, which could be a determining factor on where his side
ends up in the final stage of qualification.
He then added, “The difficulty of this game lies in the fact that Hong
Kong have arrived in Doha to win, we know how tough they are as a
team, our first match against them saw them reduce our 3-0 lead to
3-2 in the closing stages of the match, but we are ready to maintain our
perfect run and record yet another victory”.
Qatar, coached by Daniel Carreno, is unbeaten in six matches in Group
C, beating Maldives, Bhutan, Hong Kong and China P R over the course
of last nine months.
He hailed Al Rayyan’s dominance over what he dubbed as a healthy
Qatar Stars League season, his comments were, “Our league has
produced several up and coming talents that have earned a place
in the national squad, it is always beneficial to add new blood to
the team. The key factor for every player is adapt to our way of
thinking, we go into every match with the same desire to win”.
In reply to the question if the new additions to the squad could
result in less formidable squad, he answered “No, we won’t be
complacent,”
“We are here to get three points and build on the success of recent
months, the two ties against Hong Kong and then China are as important
as the previous matches we played in this campaign”.
“We aim to exhibit an all-round game on the pitch so that we get
what we are looking for,” the Uruguayan said.
