SYDNEY: Striker Hassan Al Haydoson Thursday said Qatar's loss to the
UAE last week put the team off their course at the Asian Cup where the
Gulf Cup champions crashed out after second successive defeat in the
tournament.
Sardar Azmoun’s individual brilliance ensured Iran Carlos Queiroz’s
side defeated Qatar 1-0 at Stadium Australia on Thursday.
The 20-year-old Rubin Kazan striker further enhanced his already
strong reputation with a turn that bamboozled the Qatar defence before
slotting the ball past Qasem Burhan to score one of the goals of the
tournament so far.
Last Sunday, the UAE defeatedQatar 4-1 in their opening clash.
"It was a terrible loss against the UAE. That, in a way, disrupted our
plans," Ibrahim said on Thursday. "It has been a disappointing show,"
he said.
"The team faced trouble and difficulties in the attack. We played a
highly-motivated Iranian side," Ibrahim said in a statement. "But the
first loss had a negative impact on us," Hassanrecalled.
"We wanted to collect three points but we could not," he said. "There
was a lot of pressure on us after the first loss," the ace forward
said.
"Hopefully we can come back from this exit and play well in future
games beginning with the clash against Bahrain (on January 19)," he
added.
