DOHA: Qatar Football Association (QFA) President Sheikh Hamad bin
Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani on Tuesday reiterated the country's full
support to the national senior squad that now targets reaching the
finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
The third and final phase of Asian Zone qualifying was conducted in
Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.
QFA President was speaking after Qatar were drawn in Group A that also
includes Iran, KoreaRepublic, Uzbekistan, China and Syria.
Group B includes Australia, Japan, Saudi Arabia , the United Arab
Emirates, Iraq and Thailand.
"I know Qatar will prepare well for the crucial stage of the
qualifying campaign," Sheikh Hamad said on Tuesday.
"I assure the Qatar squad that the entire country, the QFA, the
football clubs and staff members at QSL all support the national team.
"The fans and the media will also back the team. We want to reach the
finals in Russia and we wish the side luck.'
"Our preparations have already begun. I call everyone in the football
family to back Qatar in our target of reaching Russia in 2018," he
said.
Hosts of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Qatar has never reach the finals of
football's showpiece event.
