DOHA: Qatar's Al Rayyan on Tuesday were placed in Group B of the
eight-team of the Futsal Intercontinental Cup to be held in Doha next
month.
The June 24-29 tournament will contested by eight teams from three
continents, organisers said at the draw ceremony held at Aspire
Academy.
Benfica, Magnus Futsal and Inter Movistar are the other three sides
placed in Group B.
In Group A, Tasiyat Daryaei, Dynamo Moscu, Carlos Barbosa and FC
Barcelona Lassa will lock horns to reach the knockout stages of the
seven-day event.
Qatar Football Association's (QFA) Secretary General Mansoor Al Ansari
said the event will be a regular feature for the next five years
including the inaugural edition next month.
"We have the honour of organising this tournament in Doha for the next
five years as it showcases our strong commitment to not only develop
but also to positively impact futsal across three continents - Asia,
Europe and South America," Al Ansari said in his opening remarks.
President of LNFS Javier Lozano said: "Qatar investing a great deal of
resources, spending time and and money into bringing top-notch events
including events for women athletes."
"Mr Ansari you have achieved a great deal of success over the last few
years. You will get to see a beautiful show showcased by top players.
I would like to renew my thanks to QFA and others for bringing this
event to Qatar," Lozano said.
Carlo Cutropía, President 380 Around Marketing, said: "We would like
to thank QFA President and Secretary General in bringing this event to
Qatar. We will bring this event in record time. We will have 3 world
champions in one event. Futsal will gain momentum in this region."
Brazilian futsal great Alessandro Rosa Vieira - popularly known as
Falcao - said: "At the outset, I want to thank QFA. I know there's a
big infrastructure in the this country. We know 2022 FIFA World Cup
will be held here. This is a great opportunity to take futsal to new
audiences in a football-loving country."
Al Ansari said: "We are proud to present the teams with state of the
art facilities which will encourage them to display their best
performance when aiming to win this tournament. The Qatar Football
Association will spare no effort to ensure that this event is
organized to the highest of standards and has allocated Aspire’s
Ladies Sports Hall as well as the recently opened Ali Bin Hamad Al
Attiyah Arena in Al Sadd."
