Four-time FIFA World Cup™ winning nation Italy is looking to contribute further expertise to the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar™ after a trade delegation led by the Italian Minister of Economic Development visited Qatar this week.
The Italian Minister of Economic Development, H.E. Mrs. Federica Guidi, visited the offices of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) in Doha on Tuesday, and held a meeting with the SC Secretary General Hassan Al Thawadi.
During the meeting the visiting delegation from Italy were given a progress update on the proposed host venues for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar™ and their current construction phases, including the Al Bayt Stadium – Al Khor City, which has an Italian company as a main contractor in a joint venture.
Members of the delegation were also briefed on the various legacy initiatives being undertaken by the SC, including the Josoor Institute and Challenge 22, and given an overview of the SC’s workers’ welfare standards and their implementation.
“Italian companies are well known for their quality and experience, and we look forward to working closely with them going forward,” said SC Secretary General Hassan Al Thawadi.
Qatar’s ambassador to Italy, H.E. Mr. Abdulaziz Ahmed Almalki Aljehani, and the Italian ambassador to Qatar, H.E. Mr. Guido de Sanctis, were also present in the meeting.
