DOHA: Visitors Kuwait on Thursday held Qatar to a goalless draw on the
opening day of the GCC U-19 Championship at Thani bin Jassim Stadium.
Fresh out of a preparatory event in Spain, a Joao Pereira led Qatar exposed the
Kuwaiti defense on numerous occasions but failed to convert in front of the
goal and now have to wait until next Monday when they play Oman to secure
a place in the semi-finals.
On Saturday, Bahrain will tackle the UAE while Oman battle Kuwait on September 5.
On the third match day on September 7, Qatar Oman in their second clash of the
tournament. The same day Saudi Arabia play Bahrain.
The six teams are divided into two groups.
Group A includes Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
In Group B, Qatar is tagged along with Kuwait and Oman.
The semi-finals of the nine-day event will be played on September 10.
The all-important title clash will take place on September 12.
Qatar are gearing up for the U-19 AFC Cup qualification group set to be
