Dubai: El Jaish coach Sabri Lamouchi hailed his players as the Qatari club secured their place in the semi-finals of the AFC Champions League for the first time in their history with a 4-0 aggregate win over Al Nasr on Wednesday evening. The Qatar Stars League side held a 3-0 advantage from the first leg and a 1-0 win courtesy of a solitary goal from Romarinho took the Doha-based club into the last four of the continental club championship. “I”m happy with the victory and that we have reached the semi-finals for the first time,” said the coach. “I want to thank the players for the great effort they have shown tonight, it was an impressive display. We have reached the last four, and that was our target for the competition.” El Jaish took a three-goal advantage into the second leg after Al Nasr fielded an ineligible player in the first leg and their 3-0 win in Doha was annulled, handing the Qataris a 3-0 win under a ruling made by the Asian Football Confederation’s disciplinary committee. Despite that, Lamouchi was keen for his side to register a win on Wednesday evening and El Jaish pushed for the opening goal from the start. After former Barcelona midfielder Seydou Keita went close with a header in the fifth minute, el Jaish went ahead four minutes later when Keita was again at the heart of the action, storming through the home side’s defence before clipping an inch-perfect pass forward to Romarinho, and the Brazilian smashed his volley home. Al Nasr needed to score five to have any chance of joining compatriots Al Ain in the semi-finals, but despite pushing forward throughout the second half the Dubai side were unable to find a way past El Jaish goalkeeper Khalifa Ababacar. “After we lost the first leg, we wanted to come here and win and that is what have done,” said Lamouchi. “We defeated Al Nasr tonight, although we were lucky in the second half as Al Nasr attacked us. But they failed to score and that gave us the win in a tough game.”
