DOHA: Youssef Msakni on Sunday produced a late goal to power Lekhwiya
past Al Sailiyah 1-0 in a tense Emir Cup quarterfinal.
Home team Lekhwiya - one of the top teams in Qatar Stars League (QSL)
- were stretched by Al Sailiyah before Msakni's left-footed strike
from close range settled the issue at Abdullha Bin Khalifa Stadium.
After resolute defending and occasional attacks, Lekhwiya - coached by
Djamel Belmadi - finally broke the deadlock as Msakni found the top
corner of the Al Sailiya goalpost.
In the day's last quarter-final, El Jaish take on Al Ahli at the same venue.
On Saturday, football giants Al Rayyan and Al Sadd qualified for the
semi-finals with wins over Al Kharaitiyat and Al Gharafa
respectively.
Lekhwiya have never won the Emir Cup.
The tournament ends on May 20.
