DOHA: Lekhwiya scored an impressive 3-1 win over Al Khor to draw seven points clear at the top of the Qatar Stars League table. Eric Gerets’s boys have not lost in the second phase, with their last defeat coming in the ninth round when Al Ahli shocked them 1-0. Lekhwiya hardly sweated during the 3-1 win over Khor, with Sebastian Soria turning in a match-winning performance. The prolific striker provided assists for Ismail Mohammed and Nam Tae-Hee for the first two goals before slotting home a screamer from outside the box late into the game. Khor pulled one back through William Souza. Jaish, who lost six games on the trot, had snapped their losing streak with a 2-1 win over Al Sadd under new coach Nabil Maaloul earlier last week. The Armymen followed it up with an identical victory over Al Kharaitiyat on Tuesday to send strong signs of a comeback. Holders Sadd suffered another defeat against an improved Umm Salal 1-2 to drift to fourth place. Sadd, who have played a game less than Lekhwiya and Jaish, have not won since the 11th round and their series of ongoing bad runs has piled pressure on Moroccan coach Housseine Amouta. German coach Uli Stielike, who was on a second spell at Arabi, became the latest casualty in the QSL when the club management fired him following their 6-3 drubbing at the hands of promoted Al Ahli. Arabi also decided to part ways with Bahraini defender Mohammed Adnan. Ahli, who are having a dream run under Czech coach Milan Macala, climbed to third position. Former champions Al Gharafa, who have legendary Brazilian player Zico as coach, too suffered 1-2 defeat against Qatar Sports Club while Al Sailiya beat Al Rayyan 1-0. Al Wakrah won 4-3 over Muaither SC.
