DOHA:Unheralded Mesaimeer on Sunday stunned Al Arabi 3-2 in their
second-round clash of the Emir Cup.
Ayman Abdallah Mohammed produced a late goal (90) to power Mesaimeer
to the third round of the country's most popular football tournament.
Earlier at Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium on Sunday, Boualem Ahmed Khoukhi
opened the scoring for Al Arabi in the 14th minute.
A minute later, Mesaimeer's Abdulrehman Samir Said, the captain,
produced the equaliser.
In the 18th minute, Mesaimeer grabbed the lead through Khalid
Nouruddin but Al Arabi hit back in the 28th minute when Paulo Sergio
found the back of the net.
Abdallah, however, had other ideas when he smashed the winner as the
match headed toward injury time. It was curtains for Al Arabi as the
Doha giants will have to start preparing for the next football season.
Mesaimeer will now play Al Gharafa in the third round on Friday.
Al Khor on Sunday beat Muaither 3-2 in their Emir Cup clash at
Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium.
A double from Mouhssine Iajour (24 and 77) and a late goal by Sultan
Mohammed (84) powered Al Khor home.
Muaither, who have been demoted to the Second Division at the end of
the regular football season, failed to match up to the Al Khor boys.
Omar Abdul and Ahmed Yasin of Muaither picked up yellow cards as Al
Khor completed an easy win.
The third round of the Emir Cup will resume on Friday.
The final of the tournament will he held on May 19.
