DOHA: Muaither have been promoted to the Qatar Stars League
after seeing off Al Rayyan to victory at the Grand Hamad Stadium
on Saturday.
Muaither, who beat Al Rayyan 1-0 to put themselves on 38 points f
or the season with two matches to spare in the Qatargas League, will
return to the Qatar Stars League following a two-year stint at the
Qatargas League.
Ayoub Al Widrasi netted the game’s lone goal in 36th minute.
The club was founded in 1996 as Al Shabab. It changed its name to
Muaither in 2004. In that same year, Muaither became the first team
in history from the second division to win the Sheikh Jassem Cup. They
defeated Al Wakrah 2–1 in the final.
“We’ve had faith all the way through the season. I think we can look
back and see when we scored late goals and had that always go for
the goal mentality. That helped us immensely and it’s testimony to
the players and staff that everyone’s worked really well together. Said
coach Mohammed Sahel.
“After a slow start to the season, we never panicked. We stuck at our game
and knew we were performing well. Every side has results which aren’t
going to go their way but then we started winning games on regular basis
which really propelled us to the top of the league.
