DOHA: Qatar cemented their supremacy over Group A in th WAFF
u-23 championship with a 2-1 win on the expense of Jordan at the
Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium.
Two first half goals from Akram Afif were enough to propel Qatar to
the six-point mark, only one point away from securing a semi-final
berth in the inaugural edition of this regional event.
Afif sparked ten minutes of excitement in the 21st minute as he scored
the game’s first goal following a beautifully executed play. Soon after, he
converted from the spot to make it 2-0 for Qatar on 25 minutes.
Jordan narrowed the deficit on the half-hour mark through Mohammed
Hisham he benefited from a lucky deflection before lobbing the ball past
the Qatar keeper.
In Qatar’s second game of the event, Qatar play Jordan on October 3.
Qatar’s last group phase game will be against Yemen on October 6.
The semi-finals of the event will take place on October 10 while the
title clash will be held on October 14.
The ten-team tournament will culminate on October 14.
