DOHA: Qatar are confident of doing well against China in their opening
clash at the AFC U-23 Championship, coach Felix Sanchez said on
Monday.
The match takes place at Lekhwiya Stadium on Tuesday. The top three
sides will qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games.
"We've been working hard. We've had training camps in Qatar and
overseas in the last few months," Sanchez said on Monday.
"We are looking forward to our match. All groups are tough. The first
game is important. We will play against a very good side. We will
play well to be successful," Sanchez added.
"It is a big event for our young players. Some of my players are pros.
To play against such teams, we have to compete well and learn at the
same time," the coach added.
"I hope they enjoy the competition. Our expectations: we need to go
step by step," Sanchez said.
"Every game will be different. We are preparing for the first stage
now. Our final target is 2016 Olympic Games," Sanchez said.
"We have good reference on China. They are a very organised side. We
need play well to get a good result.
"All the 23 players on the list are fine. We are confident that we are
ready," he said.
"We started to train work six months ago. We need to perform well to
go to next round.
"We are a team and every player has a role. All (players) are
important, even the ones on the bench. We need to be a strong side. We
have to compete against all national sides," Sanchez said.
Qatar take on Iran on January 15 and then Syria on January 18.
