DAMMAM: Saudi Arabia on Monday edged past Qatar 2-1 in their closing
clash of the GCC Games football competition at Mohammed Bin Fahd
Stadium.
Despite the win, Saudi finished second to Gold medalists Bahrain, while
Qatar took solace in the bronze medal in the three-team event.
Bassam Hisham opened the scoring for Qatar on the half hour mark when
he headed home from a corner. However, Mohammed Aida drew Saudi level
two minutes later.
Raed Al Ghamadi sealed the game for the hosts on 43 minutes.
Qatar is featuring in the event to make use of maximum match practice
ahead of the AFC U23 Cup to be held in Doha in January 2016.
Qatar will undergo a strenuous training camp from November 1 to 17 as part of
Qatar’s preparation for the AFC U-23 Cup to be held in Doha in January 2016.
Another final training camp will commence on December 14 and remain
active until the start of the event in January.
