DOHA: Qatar Shell’s TAFAWOQ Project Management Centre of Excellence has been honoured as the best Corporate Social Responsibility initiative in Qatar’s energy sector at the inaugural Al Sharq CSR Awards ceremony.
Qatar Shell and Qatar Football Association’s (QFA) KOORA TIME initiative also picked up the Dar Al Sharq CSR Award for best Sports initiative.
KOORA TIME is a five-year sustainable initiative designed to improve the health and wellbeing of Qatar’s youth through football. The programme provides each child with an additional 96 hours of physical activity over its 24-week duration.
This award caps a great year for KOORA TIME initiative following recognition at the Sport Industry Awards 2014 for ‘Best Youth Development Initiative’ and the AFC Dream of Asia Award in the area of social responsibility. Judges were impressed by findings published by an independent sports education research agency showing that the program had significantly improved the Body Mass Index (BMI) rate of 89% of participants from the first and second season.
The awards ceremony, which featured 30 companies from different sectors, competing to demonstrate how their CSR initiatives best bridged the gap between society and the business sector, was held under the esteemed patronage of Sheikh Abdulla bin Saoud Al Thani, Qatar’s Central Bank Governor and in the presence of H.E. Salah bin Ghanim Al Ali, Minister of Youth & Sports.
TAFAWOQ, which was founded by partners Qatar Petroleum (QP), Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU) and Qatar Shell, was recognised as the best CSR initiative of the year for continuously contributing to a thriving project management community in Qatar and supporting the country in its delivery of an extraordinary portfolio of capital investment projects in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
