Qatar take on hosts Uzbekistan in WC qualifier

TASHKENT: Qatar on Tuesday will take on hosts Uzbekistan in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying game at Bunyodkor Stadium. Tuesday's Asian Zone qualifying game will be Qatar's second inside five days following their match against Iran at Al Sadd Stadium last Thursday. A win on Tuesday would allow Qatar - coached by Jorge Fossati - to move within two points of their opponents who have a tally of 9. Boualem Khoukhi issuspended for Qatar but defender Ahmed Yasser and forward Meshaal Abdulla will be available for selection after serving their bans. Group A is headed by Iran (14 points) followed by Korea Republic (10 points) in second place and Uzbekistan (9 points) in third spot. Syria (8 points) are in fourth spot with China - coached by Marcello Lippi - with 5 points are in fifth spot. Qatar are at the bottom of Group A with 4 points following their win over Syria and draw against China last year. Fossati will be looking to bounce from Qatar's 1-0 loss to Iran last Thursday. Uzbekistan won the previous encounter between the two sides in September last year.
