SYDNEY: Qatar will turn their attention to the 2018 FIFA World Cup
qualifying matches after the side failed to go past the first round of
the 2015 Asian Cup on Thursday.
On Thursday Iran beat Qatar 1-0, three days after the UAE crushed the
2014 Gulf Cup champions 4-1.
QFA President Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani said
on Thursday that Qatar is looking to the future with hope.
The QFA President said Qatar's next big target is to reach the finals
of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio
de Janeiro.
The QFA chief said winning two titles in 2014 - the WAFF Championship
in January and the Gulf Cup victory in November - were part of Qatar
plans that went well.
He said Qatar football is progressing well considering that the game's
showpiece event will be held in Qatar in 2022.
Qatar take on Bahrain in an inconsequential game against Bahrain on January 19.
Both sides have failed to reach the quarterfinals.
