DOHA: Qatar University (QU) and Qatar Aeronautical College (QAC) have qualified to play in the final match of the inaugural University Cup after winning their semi-final matches against College of the North Atlantic Qatar (CNA-Q) and Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q) respectively.
University Cup is a partnership between Qatar Football Association (QFA) and Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) which brings together several universities and colleges from across Qatar to take part in the tournament.
The new tournament supports both organisations’ mission to promote productive change through various projects and programmes including healthy living through sports.
Qatar University (QU) and Qatar Aeronautical College (QAC) are set to battle it out on the field for the coveted title on Thursday 12 March at Qatar Foundation, Pitch 3 at 6pm.
The Champion of this year’s Cup will receive a cash prize of 20,000 Qatari Riyals, while the runner-up will receive 10,000 Qatari Riyals. The Best Player of the tournament will receive a cash prize of 2,000 Qatari Riyals.
QFA and QF are committed to delivering a first class football programme to the youth of Qatar’s colleges and universities. This is reflected in the provision of the new cup competition this year, as well as a year-round development plan.
Commenting on the introduction of the new tournament, Hilal Al Mohannadi, Head of Development of the School and University League in QFA said: “Introducing this new tournament showcases QFA’s commitment to develop football amongst Qatar’s college and university youth. QFA and QF implemented with great success two editions of the University League, and we are constantly seeking new ways to promote football at the university level through future joint initiatives.”
