A visit to the Turkish Football Federation facilities in Riva, Istanbul, and a helicopter tour of the city’s most recent stadium additions were the highlights on the second stop of a Qatari trade delegation visit to Turkey, which included officials from the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) and stakeholders from Qatar Rail, Ashgahl, Aspetar and the Qatar Tourism Authority.
The meetings held by the delegation led by SC Secretary General H.E. Hassan Al Thawadi at the new facilities in Riva – which incorporates a national team centre with five training pitches and custom-built areas for players, officials and coaching staff – included productive discussions with the Acting President of the Turkish Football Federation, Servet Yıldırım. Also present in the discussions was Turkish National Team coach Fatih Terim, who highlighted Qatar’s strong performance in the recent international friendly held between the two teams in Doha.
Following the discussions, which focused on ways to enhance technical cooperation and exchange of expertise, the Qatari delegation was given a helicopter tour of Istanbul to receive an overview of major infrastructure developments. The tour showcase mega projects like the new airport and road networks being build in the vicinity, as well as Galatasaray's Türk Telekom Arena and Beşiktaş's Vodafone Arena. The last stop for the delegation was Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadium, where a full technical tour and overview of the functionality of the modern 17,500 seater stadium took place. The stadium named after Turkey’s renowned national team coach recently hosted the international match between Turkey and Greece. Facilities in thestadium include 34 rooms for players, as well as accommodation for elite young players and 11 new training pitches under construction in addition to the existing three pitches.
