DOHA: In an overwhelming gesture of expressing solidarity with the country's leadership, the Qatar Football Association (QFA) representatives and office-bearers on Wednesday gathered around to sign a huge mural of the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Officials representing the Qatar Stars League (QSL) also joined in to unveil the "Tamim Al Majd" mural which was inaugurated at Al Bidda Tower, the home of football in Qatar. QFA Secretary General Mansoor Al Ansari was one of the top officials to sign the mural. Other office-bearers of QFA and QSL also participated in the gathering. Participants wished the Emir long life while many hoped for a brighter future for Qatar under H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani's leadership. A sports hub of the region, Qatar remains one of the most popular sports destination in Asia and the region. Host of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Qatar is surging ahead with its preparation of the game's showpiece event held every four years. QFA will stage the AFC U-23 Asian Cup qualifiers from July 19 to 23 in Doha with the participation of four countries that includes India, Syria and Turkmenistan besides hosts Qatar. The matches of the four-nation event will be held at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium. QSL will stage launch the 2017-18 football season in September while the clubs remain busy in signing new players for the upcoming season.
