DOHA: Following reports emanating in some quarters of the media
in Germany that Bayern Munich Coach, Pep Guardiola is negotiating
a deal with the Qatar Football Association (QFA), the Qatari football
governing body has denied these reports, saying "it is devoid of any truth".
Top QFA officials insisted the Spaniard is without a doubt one of football's
most respected and decorated coaches, but at no point was he approached
by any QFA official to take over as new coach of the Qatar national team.
Qatar is now coached by Djamal Belmadi, the Algerian, led the Qatar national
side in a successful 2014 as Qatar were crowned West Asian champions for the
first time and Gulf champions for the first time in a decade.
The former Lekhwiya coach is under contract with the Qatar Football Association
until the end of 2018.
