DOHA: Qatar Football Association (QFA) is looking at increasing the
number of elite licensed referees to 50, a top official said on Saturday.
Neji Jouini, Executive Director of the Referees Committee at QFA, said
the game's ruling body currently has 32referees managing games in the
country and abroad.
"The QFA is aggressively working on increasing the number of referees.
We are looking to reach 50 in the near future," Jouni said.
"We have excellent support on this matter from QFA President and Vice
President. We don't look at playing the sport only. QFA is
continuously working on developing the sport on all fronts," he added.
"Our referees have officiated at international games also and they
have done really well," he said.
"It has been an interesting journey developing new referees and we
will not stop now," he said.
"We have some targets to meet and I am sure we will have 50 licensed
referees very soon," he said.
