QFA president lauds positive discussions at AGM

DOHA: Qatar Football Association (QFA) President Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani on Tuesday lauded the discussions that took place at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), labeling them as 'positive and constructive in nature'. QFA President said the vacant positions on the Executive Committee will be filled next year when elections are held at a pre-determined date. Sheikh Hamad lauded the improved attendances at Qatar Stars League (QSL) matches this season, saying fan turnout has far exceeded anyone's expectations. The QFA President noted that this year's crowd turnout was better compared to the last season despite the fact that half of the season still remains. QFA President said the return of Al Rayyan in QSL has helped in bringing more fans to the venues. He said better fan turnouts usually assured of greater quality of football among the teams. About refereeing issues, the QFA President said officials make mistakes. He said 'every human makes errors and their mistakes should not be considered as deliberate'. The QFA chief underlined Qatar's ambitions of reaching the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals, saying his team will do everything in its power to help create a strong squad that could qualify for the game's showpiece event in Russia. He said Qatar coach Daniel Carreno is expected to be back soon from his vacation. He said the Uruguayan will sit down with the management and set the agenda for next year. QFA chief said 'the next phase is clearly the most important for the Qatar squad'. He urged the stakeholders to remain united in helping Qatar progress to the finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
