DOHA: Qatar Football Association (QFA) President Sheikh Hamad bin
Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani on Tuesday welcomed regional football
chiefs.
The region's top football chiefs have arrived in the Qatari capital for a
key meeting to be held on Wednesday.
QFA chiefreceivedSheikh Talal Al Fahad Al Sabah of Kuwait, Yusuf
Yaqoub Al Serkal of the UAE, SheikhAhmed Saleh Al Essa of Yemen
andKhalid Al Busaidi of Oman.
Sheikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa of Bahrain andSaudi football president
Ahmed bin Eid Al Harbi, are also in town. Iraqi football chief Abdul Khaliq
Masood arrived in Doha on Monday.
Important matters will be up for discussion at Wednesday's meeting. This
meeting comes after Monday's gathering of Secretary Generals of football
bodies around the region.
QFA President will address a press conference after Wednesday's
meeting.
Kuwait will be given a second chance to host the nexteditionof the
Gulf Cup after world governingbody was said to be in a position to
liftinternational sanctions on Kuwait.
Kuwait’s preparations to stage the GulfCup will be closely monitored
in the coming months. A final verdictwill be announcedon June 7.
If FIFA does not lift sanctions on Kuwait in May,then Qatar will organise
the next edition in 2017 followed by the UAEin 2019.
The fate of the 23rd Gulf Cup will be the top topic of discussion on
Wednesday.
