QFA referees, technical staffers honoured at ceremony

DOHA: The Qatar Football Association (QFA) on Sunday honoured the technical staff members who manage games, the behind-the-scene shows and day-to-day affairs. In a ceremony held at Radisson Blu Hotel, the special gathering was attended by Hana Balan, the Qatar Stars League (QSL) CEO, Mansoor Al Ansari, the QFA Secretary General, Neji Jouni, Executive Director of the Referees Committee at QFA and Massimo Busacca, Fifa's head of referees. QFA officials and managers also attended the meeting. Salman Falahi, the referee of the Emir Cup final, was handed a menento for being named 'Best Referee of the Year'. Salim Juma was declared the 'Best Assistant Referee' in the season. Balan presented awards to Rustam Baker and Ibrahim Ali also. Qatari referees who featured at the FIFA U-16 World Championship in Chile including Abd al-Rahman Al-Jassem, Salem Saud Ahmed, Abdullah Hassan Al Shahrani, Abdul Hadi Rwaili and Salem Eid Ali were also given special awards. Senior staff members at QFA were also honoured at the ceremony. Schools that cooperated with QFA during the season were also honoured. Busacca of FIFA praised the role played by QFA to develop the game and to take the initiative of helping people take up refereeing seriously. He said he came to Doha for the first time in 2003 and was amazed to see the pace of football development in Qatar since then. Busacca said QFA should be rightfully proud of its diverse role to develop the sport in the country and the region.
