QFA Vice President Al Mohannadi heads key GCC meeting

DOHA: Saud Al Mohannadi, Vice President of Qatar Football Association (QFA), on Monday headed a key meeting for General Secretaries of regional GCCon Monday. Football representatives from Iraq and Yemen were also present at the meeting. One of the key points discussed at the meeting was that Kuwait will be given the chance to host the 2016 Gulf Cup later this year in December. The meeting also discussed matters relating to Gulf Football Federation which is poised to be located in Doha. It emerged the GCC football officials agreed to take the Gulf Cup - the most popular football event among the Arab countries - to Kuwait after world governing body was said to be in a position to lift international sanctions on Kuwait. Al Mohannadi told reporters Kuwait's preparations to stage the Gulf Cup will be closely monitored in the coming months. A final verdict will be announcedon June 7. Al Mohannadi said if FIFA does not lift sanctions on Kuwait in May, then Qatar will organise the next edition in 2017 followed by the UAE in 2019. The meeting also decided the dates for the Gulf Cup in Kuwait will be December 15 to 29. Healso said that the Standing Committee of the Gulf Cup has raised its recommendations and proposals on all matters for the attention of the regional football chiefs who are set to meet on Wednesday in Doha. The QFA Vice President also said matters relating to Gulf Football Federation were also discussed at the meeting. The eight member states will elect a president at its next meeting. image15
