DOHA: Qatar Football Association (QFA) Vice President Saud Al
Mohannadi on Wednesday congratulated 'Al Anabi' for their 3-1 win over
China on day one of the AFC U-23 Championship.
Playing resolute football, Felix Sanchez's young side stunned China by
rallying from a goal's deficit to register a 3-1 win at Lekhwiya
Stadium.
"Victories in opening games of any event are difficult so Qatar did
really well by staying calm in the tough match," Al Mohannadi said.
"I hope our boys exhibit the same level of intensity against Iran (on
Friday)," he added.
"I urge Qatar fans to come in large numbers and support the young
boys," Al Mohannadi said.
"We lacked bite in our attack in the first half but what impressed me
was the fight back in the second half," he said.
"The most pleasing aspect of our win was that we created the chances
to score goals and we managed three strikes in the second half," Al
Mohannadi said.
"Iran is clearly a tougher side than China so we must double our
efforts on the pitch on Friday," Al Mohannadi said.
"We can't really make any predictions on any side. We have the top 16
teams playing here. All are quality sides who do well at the Asian
level," the QFA vice president said.
When asked about the opening ceremony before the start of Qatar's
clash against China on Tuesday, Al Mohannadi said: "I take this
opportunity to congratulate the Local Organizing Committee. They did a
great job of putting together a sublime opening ceremony."
He added: "I think the crowd at Lekhwiya Stadium enjoyed the opening
ceremony followed by the quality of football in the opening clash."
