DOHA: The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) on Wednesday held its 31st
session of the Extraordinary General Assembly meeting which was
addressed by Chairman His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani,
and attended by Secretary General Dr. Thani bin Abdulrahman Al
Kuwari, and presidents of sports federations.
Sheikh Joaan urged the sports federations and associations to assist
the national athletes in every which way possible so that Qatar teams
prepare well for next year's Olympic Games to be held in Rio de
Janeiro.
Qatar bagged two bronze medals at the 2012 London Olympic Games with
Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah and Mutaz Barshim shining in shooting and long
jump competitions.
During the meeting in Doha, a number of key issues were discussed in
detail as Qatar looks forward to what will be a busy year for the
national athletes and teams.
In a key decision, it was announced that a Court of Arbitration for
Sport, Qatar chapter, would be set up to settle matters relating to
athletes and their employers.
