DOHA: The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), in cooperation with the Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services, has set up two Ramadan tents to serve daily Iftar as part of its continuing efforts to support and develop local communities in Qatar and provide opportunities for workers on Al Wakrah and Al Bayt - Al Khor City stadiums and in the surrounding areas to come together. For the duration of the Holy Month of Ramadan, breakfast meals will be served to more than 1,000 people in two large tents. During the 2014 FIFA World Cup™, the SC installed four TV screens inside the tents so guests could watch all the matches live. On the first day, the number of visitors exceeded all expectations, as scores of fasting guests from Bangladesh, Nepal, India, and several African and Arab countries, flocked to the Iftar tents to enjoy the Ramadan ambience and watch the thrilling matches of the FIFA World Cup™. Saber, an Egyptian working in a cable factory in Qatar, said that his favourite part was people from different nationalities coming together for Iftar in a unique, spiritual atmosphere. He added that his five friends that accompanied him enjoyed watching the matches on the large screens. Rahman from Pakistan said that he liked having the Iftar meal served in a box because it allows visitors to take leftovers with them instead of throwing them out, while Hussein from India liked the location of the tent, finding it easily accessible. The Iftar tents are a part of the SC’s on-going programmes for improving workers’ welfare and outreach to local communities in Qatar.
