DOHA: Hosts Qatar on Tuesday relied on a late goal by Mohammed Muntari to hold World Cup-bound Iceland to a 1-1 draw in an international friendly.
Muntari, lurking inside the Iceland box, took a long lob on his chest and then quickly slot the ball past the goalkeeper for his team's equalizer in injury time.
Ranked 21 on the FIFA computer, Iceland were put to the test by a young Qatar side coached by Felix Sanchez.
Earlier striker Viðar Örn Kjartansson scored Iceland's only goal in the 26th minute at Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium.
Ranked 97, Qatar impressed with their attacks, maintaining an impressive 62 percent of the ball possession in the draining friendly.
Qatar also managed more corners (6) against just 2 by the visitors in the game played under lights at the home turf of QNB Stars League Duhail.
Tuesday's match, part of Qatar’s preparations for the Gulf Cup which will take pace in Doha from December 22 to January 5, came two days after Qatar's 1-0 loss against the Czech Republic at the same venue.
