DOHA: Qatar on Tuesday produced a quality game as the home side edged
past Republic of Korea 3-2 in their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying
match.
Striker Hassan Al Haydos curled in a David Beckham-like free kick in
the 25th minute for Qatar's first goal while Akram Afif found the net
from close range in the 51st minute at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.
Al Haydos also scored in the 75th minute after a slick 1-2 with
captain Rodrigo Tabata.
Earlier the talismanic Qatar forward curled in brilliant effort into
Kwoun Suntae's bottom left-hand corner, with the 'keeper rooted the
spot.
The hosts doubled their advantage as the crowd went delirious in the
second half much to the delight of Qatar coach Jorge Fossati.
Afifi picked the ball up just outside the Korean penalty area and
played a swift one-two with Al Haydos before he rifled a shot past
Kwoun Suntae.
Qatar restored their advantage with a second goal from Al Haydos.
Tabata played a through ball to Al Haydos who finished past Korea
Republic goalkeeper Suntae.
The visitors, ranked 43 in the world, scored their goal through KI
Sungyueng in the 62nd minute. Hwang Heechan scored the second goal for
the visitors in the 70th minute.
