“Since my candidacy to stand for election to the FIFA Council was confirmed last month, I have campaigned throughout Asia, building support for a candidacy designed to reflect the importance of the Asian Football Confederation in world football. However, as this campaign reaches its climax, I was disappointed to learn of the recommendations put forward by the Investigatory Chamber of FIFA’s Ethics Committee, via a media release and without prior notification.
“I have not yet seen the Investigatory Chamber’s report, so I am unable to comment on its substance. However, I am confident that a full and fair review of the matter will confirm that I have co-operated extensively and candidly – and will continue to do so if required – with the Ethics Committee to the best of my ability.
“The experience of this campaign, along with the endorsements I have received, leaves me more convinced than ever of the value I have to offer after a long and successful career in football administration. It is my hope these recommendations do not result in this campaign being fought in vain.”
