DOHA: Qatar on Saturday went down fighting 1-0 to Czech Republic at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, home turf of Duhail.     The match, part of Qatar’s preparations for the Gulf Cup which will take pace in Doha from December 22 to January 5, saw the visitors score an early goal and they held on to the lead till the final whistle.     Qatar's Ismail Mohamed and Moez Ali played sparkling football but the home side could not score, especially in the second half when the hosts created impressive goal-scoring chances.     The Czech Republic, a traditional powerhouse in international football, are currently ranked at 48, did not qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.     Qatar is also scheduled to play another friendly match against world Cup-bound Iceland on November 14.     Iceland, after making a splash in their first foray into international football tournaments in Euro 2016; Iceland (ranked 21st in FIFA Rankings) are going to feature at next year’s World Cup.     In 2016, the Scandinavian side presented a fierce appetite for tough football by beating former world Champions England before losing in the quarter-finals to hosts France.     Qatar coach Felix Sanchez is looking to try new players in a bid to form a powerful side in the build-up to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
