U-19 squad defeats Stade de Reims

PARIS: Qatar juniors on Wednesday beat French side Stade de Reims 2-0 in a friendly. Coached by Oscar Cano, the squad is in France to prepare for the AFC Under-19 Championship to be he played in Bahrain this October. Bassam Hissam and Ahmed Al Mohannadi scored the two goals for Qatar. Coach Cano made numerous changes to the squad to give the players maximum opportunity of getting match practice, a team official said on Wednesday. Earlier, the young Qataris were handed a hefty 0-7 defeat by Austria. The Qatari football delegation will leave for Doha on Thursday, a team official confirmed. The squad will resume training in Doha after a short break. Qatar will compete in Group C in thetournament to be held in Bahrain alongside Japan, Iran and Yemen. Qatar are the defending champions at the event in Bahrain. Also known as 'Al Anabi', Qatar beat North Korea in a historic final in Myanmar in October 2014.
