DOHA: Lekhwiya Vice President Khalifa Khamis on Saturday termed his
team's Emir Cup win on Friday a 'special victory'.
Lekhwiya beat Al Sadd 4-2 on penalties after both teams ended
regulation time with a 2-2 draw at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.
"This is Lekhwiya's first Emir Cup win. It is a special win. It is a
historic win," Khamis said on Saturday.
"We are thrilled to see the boys do so well in what was a very tough
final. Winning this title feels special," he added.
"We have played football across all formats including the AFC
Champions League," he said.
"The current season has been a tough one for us. The players did their
best. After all the hard work and after missing out on the Qatar Stars
League (QSL) title, we won the Emir Cup," he said.
"I applaud the performances of the players, the backroom staff, the
guys who work so hard at the club. I know the players are thrilled to
shake hands with the Emir after the final," he said.
"I am delighted to see that the players rescued our season since we
hadn't won any title this season," Khamis said.
Al Rayyan won the Qatar Star League title.
"Now we will prepare for the next season," he said.
