Doha: The Qatar Football Association (QFA) has announced a significant strategic shift for the upcoming season of the Second Division League, promising a tournament that will be fundamentally different from its predecessors. According to Dr. Ahmed Al-Abbasi, Head of the QFA's Central Scouting Committee, the changes are designed to fundamentally strengthen the quality and excitement of domestic football.
The transformation is driven by new regulations, including updates to player age rules and the implementation of a seven-professionals system. Dr. Al-Abbasi stated that the core mission of the Central Scouting Committee since its launch has been to raise the level of competitiveness and enhance the technical capabilities of players, initiatives that will now be fully realized in the Second Division.
"In line with our strategy to develop the league, we have focused on recruiting young players to increase the technical value and raise the tempo of matches," Al-Abbasi explained. This focus on youth, he added, will make the competition "faster and more powerful," creating an ideal environment to showcase promising talent.
This has led the committee to officially dub the new season a "league of talents." The designation comes from the large contingent of players under the age of 23 who will feature in every position, including goalkeeper. Al-Abbasi was quick to note that this talent pool is not limited to foreign signings but also includes a wealth of local prospects. This diversity, he concluded, provides the perfect opportunity to discover and refine a new generation of players within a truly competitive environment, ultimately strengthening the entire football pyramid in Qatar.
